Pokemon Gold (SpaceWorld '97 Demo version): "Unused" maps
15So I managed to find a way to forcefully load individual maps in the same "map group" of a certain area, and thanks to the Google spreadsheet of the demo's findings I knew exactly which maps to go for. You can't get to these areas normally since there's no warp tile in their respective map groups that brings you to them.
The first one is labelled "UNUSED_13" and is in the map group associated with Silent Hill. Unfortunately there seems to be nothing there except garbage data, although going there brings up the time debug display for some reason. It's also prone to crash when walking around so save states are recommended.
The second one, and more interesting, is the one labelled "KANTO_UNUSED_AREA" and is likewise in the map group reserved for the Kanto city. It loads up a small area with tiles reserved for the Game Corner area, so maybe it was meant to be some sort of exchange area for prizes? Either that or maybe it was meant to be a hub for the other minigames like the Picross one?
