Before starting Surprise Trade, I show a one day Mystery Gift distribution, you can enter a code to get a Life Orb, so this can be a good item to pick up, specially for competitive players.
This week's Surprise Trade is a special case, because while I will be trading Shellos, I am trading both the West Sea and East Sea Shellos, and even though you can only get East Sea Shellos in the game, West Sea can only be obtained by transferring from a previous game and breeding.
I breed for 31 IVs in at least 4 or 5 stats, and while I went with Calm for the Nature, Shellos can make use of different Natures, like Bold, Modest, and Quiet, as it specializes in being defensive, it is preferred as a Special Attacker, and it is slow, and its evolved form Gastrodon is a good Pokémon with that Water/Ground-type.
Shellos learns a lot of Egg Moves, the ones I trade have Counter, Mirror Coat, Yawn, and Clear Smog, it can also get Stockpile, Swallow, Spit Up, Curse, Sludge, Mist, and Acid Armor, I will list which parents in the Water 1 and Amorphous Egg Groups that can learn those moves.
Acid Armor: Jellicent
Clear Smog: Koffing, Weezing, G-Weezing
Counter: Wobbuffet, Pyukumuku, Chewtle, Drednaw
Curse: Slowpoke, G-Slowpoke, Slowbro, G-Slowbro, Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Slowking, G-Slowking, G-Corsola, Duskull, Dusclops, Spiritomb, Dusknoir, Yamask, G-Yamask, Cofagrigus, Tirtouga, Carracosta, Litwick, Lampent, Chandelure, Phantump, Trevenant, Pyukumuku, Cursola, Runerigus, Pincurchin
Mirror Coat: Wobbuffet, Corsola, G-Corsola, Dewpider, Araquanid, Cursola
Mist: Lapras, Wooper, Quagsire, Lotad, Lombre, Ludicolo, Wingull, Pelipper, Eiscue
Sludge: Koffing, Weezing, G-Weezing
Spit Up: Pelipper, Drifloon, Drifblim, Cramorant
Stockpile: Pelipper, Drifloon, Drifblim, Cramorant
Swallow: Pelipper, Drifloon, Drifblim, Cramorant
Yawn: Slowpoke, G-Slowpoke, Slowbro, G-Slowbro, Wooper, Quagsire, Slowking, G-Slowking, Kingdra, Relicanth

Those are some good options for Egg Moves, the ones that stand out are Counter, Mirror Coat, Yawn, Clear Smog, Stockpile, and a few others, but you can only have up to four. Going over Shellos's level up moves, it can get Water Gun, Mud-Slap, Harden, Recover, Water Pulse, Ancient Power, Body Slam, Muddy Water, Earth Power, Rain Dance, and Memento, it evolves into Gastrodon at Level 30, and it becomes part Ground-type after evolving, it doesn't learn any different moves to Shellos, but it does learn moves later.
Next is Gastrodon's TM and TR moves, it can learn Dig, Rock Slide, Icy Wind, Whirlpool, Weather Ball, Rock Tomb, Mud Shot, Brine, Bulldoze, Stomping Tantrum, and a few others, and for TRs, it can learn Surf, Hydro Pump, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Earthquake, Waterfall, Amnesia, Sludge Bomb, Stone Edge, Sludge Wave, Scald, and some other moves, and it can learn Skitter Smack for a Tutor move.
I didn't go with Sand Force for Shellos because there is no reason to take that over Storm Drain, and this is a great Ability to have. Gastrodon is at least decent in online battles, I find that it is better in Double Battles, but it has its uses in Single Battles, it has access to Scald to burn the opponent, and it can heal up with Recover, which will allow Gastrodon to last longer in battle, and Leftovers is the preferred item. Gastrodon can be a good Special Attacker if you can put its Storm Drain to use with moves like Earth Power, Ice Beam, Sludge Bomb, and Surf, and it can use Mirror Coat to send Special Attacks back to the opponent. Clear Smog is a decent option to remove the opponent's stat modifications, specially when the opponent has Dynamaxed and gained stat boosts.
Gastrodon is an excellent Pokémon in Double Battles, it pairs up well with Pokémon weak to Water-type moves, and it can switch in to get a Special Attack boost if its teammate is a Pokémon with the type disadvantage. It has access to moves like Earth Power and Muddy Water for moves, and it has some good Special moves like Ice Beam, Clear Smog, and Scald, and it can use Protect and Recover as good status moves. With Storm Drain, this makes Gastrodon one of the best Pokémon to handle opposing Water-type Pokémon, like Wash Rotom, Rapid Strike Style Urshifu, Dracovish, Tapu Fini, Kingdra, and a few others, but it will require team support when dealing with some of these Pokémon. It is also a decent Pokémon in Trick Room teams if it has a Speed lowering Nature like Quiet.
While I like the concept of Shellos in Pokémon Diamond & Pearl where the form was dependant on which part of Sinnoh they appear in, and out of the Pokémon that I have used for online battles, Gastrodon is one of the Pokémon that I really like to use, as I have used Gastrodon in online battles throughout the generations with that Water/Ground-type and access to Storm Drain for its Ability.
