R-Type Final - Stage 2.2 Twisted Ecology with the Legendary R9 - Bydo
This stage played in Score Attack on Bydo difficulty with the R9A Arrowhead.
My thoughts on the stage are below, if anyone is interested.
I'd been thinking about this for a long time, playing each stage with the R9. In the past I'd been using powerful ships; a crutch. Not anymore. I played most of the stages on Bydo difficulty, and while some of them were quite rough, they were definitely manageable.
- Of note in stage 2.2 is the boss. When you play the game normally for the first time, you get this stage. Afterward you'll see red and blue pegs sticking out of its side. If you shoot the corresponding colored peg, you can change the stage to more dried out or a frozen underwater area. There are five versions of this stage!
- The boss itself has a glowing orange weak point that can appear on the left or right side. Obviously it's easier if it comes out on the left, but if not, it's best to throw the Force under it and steer it up so that it can hit the weak point for you. Every time I've ever tried to fly under this thing I end up getting killed.
- Sometimes the weak point on the right side will be positioned in a way so that your Force can't strike it (assuming you're not using one that homes in while shooting), but this is easily taken care of by shooting your wave cannon at the bottom of the boss and making it sling towards the right side of the screen, where it will likely be stuck by your Force or its firepower.
- I believe this to be the canon version of this stage, as it is the only one that has text at the beginning.
*I love this ship, which is why it gets its own playlist. I played most of the stages on Bydo difficulty with the classic R-Type, and I got through each stage without dying.
