My Resident Evil 8 Village Gameplay Walkthrough!
Resident Evil 8 Village sees the return of Ethan Winters and Chris Redfield, the playable protagonists from Resident Evil 7. This time they aren't so friendly with each other as Ethan finds himself fighting for answers on why his family was attacked by Chris, and his loving daughter, Rose, was kidnapped. Setting off to a nearby village, Ethan is thrown into a world of horror as a group of dangerous mutated people calling themselves Lords have taking control and released an army of monsters on the population. Ethan must survive the village, defeat the Lords, and get his family back.
RE8 was pretty fun. Surprisingly Village kept the puzzles from RE7 instead of my predicted removal once I learned RE8 was headed towards a more action title similar to RE4 than the classic games like RE7 aimed to be. The gameplay is also more fluid this time round, with action and enemies being fun and enjoyable to fight, instead of giving me the desire to run past everything and finish areas quickly so I can be done with the mold enemies from the cabin.
While puzzles and action, and a great map layout hold RE8 Village up high in terms of gameplay, the story its self is fun enough to pay attention to, too. Not on the level that RE7 was, nor is it the best structured in terms of pacing, it still kept my attention. And while the game isn't very long, it also comes away feeling bloated in the later half. There's an entire section I would remove and a character i'd probably get rid of, too. Perhaps giving their screen time to the Vampire sisters instead as they were barely there.
Another issue RE8 has is the boss battles. They're rather forgettable, though the story carries the final boss to something I can't dislike.
Overall, RE8 is a solid title and a fun experience, but doesn't rank high on my favourite Resident Evil list. It also bleeds from one massive concern I have for the franchise; lack of passion. The last few Resident Evil titles have felt, to me, like mass produced products, and while they are high quality products, they still feel as if a faceless corporation made them. The passion felt from the original Resident Evil titles all the way up to 5 isn't present. The series needs a director behind it that has the drive, talent, and love for the lore and characters to do it justice. So, while still a fine game worth your money, it doesn't have the soul RE once displayed powerfully.
Looking forward to see what the next chapter in Resi looks like, I hope a lot more time is spent working on making it a stand out in the series.
