Return of the Genie | MP Plays | Shantae: ½ Genie Hero | 6
Features gathering the four clues, storming Risky’s Hideout, the unexpectedly tedious final boss and ending. The boss is actually so tedious I assume I missed something.
I know that there are several DLC packs for this game, but I’ given to understand they are only the same levels, simply with different characters and different funny dialogue. I don’t think that is worth spending more money, especially after the disappointing main game.
Yeah, I’m surprised I pretended to be so positive at the ending in the video. Unfortunately, on every metric except graphics, Shantae: ½ Genie Hero is a downgrade from Shantae and the Pirate’s Curse. The level-based structure is less enjoyable, the music is worse, the pacing is worse, the writing (in my opinion) is a bit less funny, and, even if The Pirate’s Curse ain’t exactly Shakespeare, the story is worse too. ½ Genie Hero is not a bad game, but neither is it anything too remarkable. I think what happened is that Way Forward wanted this game to introduce a larger audience to the Shantae series, and so they made it less complicated than the previous outing. Hopefully, whatever they get up to next will return to The Pirate’s Curse formula, or do this level-and-mission-based style more engagingly.
