Source for the otherworld existing before Silent Hill 1: https://www.silenthillmemories.net/lost_memories/guide/094_en.htm
"Originally Silent Hill was a holy place to the area's former inhabitants. It would seem that although the power of the town was not evil in nature, due to a number of factors including the spread of an epidemic and executions at the prison, the power that this place held was greatly distorted. Furthermore, due to the large-scale shift to the otherworld that occurred in the first game, the town has become a great catalyst for the manifestation of peoples' unconscious minds. It appears to have become a place that beckons to those who hold darkness in their hearts."
The otherworld existed prior to SH1, it's power was simply amplified due to such events.

"On a fog-bound November day in 1918, the Little Baroness, a ship filled with tourists, failed to return to port." - SH2 memo. Does this not imply the Otherworld existed since at least the early 1900s?

As for Alessa being burned purposefully: https://imgur.com/a/GaUtZOy

How can such a bad game leave such a big smile on my face? The answer is simple; because it's not a bad game.

I was very harsh with my wording, calling the cutscene at the start of this episode "fucking stupid". I try to avoid such harsh, childish language. I actually think the otherworld transition and Travis running was really great. I guess I just didnt understand the Alessa bit. Why is she even doing that if she's trying to prevent unleashing hell? Maybe that was just her way of saying "Hey Travis, get the Antique shop will ya... QUICKLY PLEASE!!" I don't know. It just doesn't make sense to me, and it seems incredibly out of character. It's like if Heather shot Douglas in the face in SH3, and then never having it brought up for the rest of the game. In retrospect this cutscene wasnt my biggest problem with this game though, my biggest problem would have to be the controls not compensating for the camera.

This game is incredibly impressive for the PSP of all things. What Climax were able to accomplish on that little 2005 handheld was remarkable. Especially considering the development hell they had to go through. Apparently Climax Action (located in United Kingdom) were given the game by Climax Group (located in Los Angeles), while the game was half-way through development. The original game was some mediocre over-the-shoulder game with a barely working engine (there is some footage of it online). Climax Action ended up remaking the game from the ground up in an attempt to save it from what their American studio was planning, and Climax Action *still* had the original budget and timeframe Konami gave Climax Group (yikes). With what they had to work with in 6 months (yes, this game was developed in 6 months), there is no way this game should have been as good as it was, let alone one of the best games on the entire PSP library. And I'm not just saying that because I'm a Silent Hill shill... A SILENT SHILL! This game is a piece of art made by a team working against all odds.
