Sierra Saturday: Let's Play Mystery House - GO HOLE
It's Sierra Saturday! Let's play Mystery House! For this week's entry to Horror Month, the NPCs venture into a mysterious mansion of monochrome murder, with the first graphic adventure ever created, Roberta Williams's breakout hit, which places the player in the role of a nameless invitee to a mansion where a game is afoot, and that game is GO HOLE or go home.

Mystery House is the first in the "Hi-Res Adventure" series of games released by On-Line Systems (Later to become Sierra On-Line), and pioneered the graphic adventure genre by being the first game of its kind to feature pictures on-screen to accompany the text adventure format. It was a groundbreaking achievement, and despite a meagre, by modern standards, 10,000 units sold, it was considered a smashing success for the era, and kickstarted the company that would go on to revolutionize and lead the genre for a decade and change to come.
The NPCs are playing the 1987 re-release of Mystery House to the public domain, running on the AppleWin Apple IIe emulator.
Sierra Saturday is a weekly series on the Level 0 NPCs channel, where Matt & Luke relive their childhoods playing classic adventure games of the '80s and '90s (and beyond?). Sierra adventure games were a special breed of dark humor, brutally unfair puzzles and unforgettable characters, and we hope you enjoy this walk down memory lane with us.
