In this episode, Walter and I are going to discuss the differences between managing an educational institutions security requirements with a lean budget versus the luxury of managing larger corporations with considerably more funds to support their IT Security requirements. Walter Kerner relies on over 40 years of IT experience to bring a broad-based perspective to conversations about issues facing our industry. He has managed teams in Application Development, Infrastructure, Project Management and Delivery, and Cybersecurity. He has worked for multi-billion dollar organizations including MetLife, HBO and the NBA, but has also managed within mid-size organizations like Columbia House and St. John’s University.

Walter has specialized primarily in cyber security since 2010 when he earned his CISSP. He currently serves as the Associate Vice-President and CISO for the Fashion Institute of Technology, where he works to move the organization towards world-class cyber security practices within the unique requirements of an Institution of Higher Education.

Walter has a BA from SUNY Binghamton and an MBA from NYU’s Stern School of Business.
