Sonic the Hedgehog CD (Sega CD) - Playthrough
1Sonic CD was the killer app of the Sega CD released in 1993; and while it contained some unique selling points, such as a high quality CD soundtrack (which is different based on region)... the game itself is just par for the course.
Admittedly, Sonic CD might've done some good for Sonic back then, such as introducing Amy Rose, and Metal Sonic to the cast lineup... but in terms of gameplay; Sonic CD is more or less just Sonic 1, with larger levels to encourage exploration; with a Time Travel mechanic that was really not very well thought out. The music however, is a great collection, regardless of if listening to the US or Japanese versions. I highly recommend both (this was recorded with the US version, just because it's the soundtrack I'm used to. But honestly, I think the Japanese soundtrack is the overall better package).
The result is a game with an identity crisis. Since as a Sonic game; stages are short, and easy if you just rush through (This playthrough is shorter then my Sonic 1 playthrough because I basically just rushed through), but if you opt to search around to complete the Past objective, and destroy the Robot Generators; stages can take upwards of 8-15 minutes to clear if you can't get the Time Travel to work, or can't find the Robot Generator.
