This was actually the track that inspired me to replay the game after almost a decade of hating it, and I found myself now loving it and probably becoming my favorite Sonic game of all time after playing it in its intended way of exploring and correctly using the time travel mechanics.
This game is amazing, and if you hate it like I used to, then try to replay it but not in the same way as any other 2D Sonic game. Time travel is NOT pointless, it's the entire point of the game.
"There's no point in going to the future!" Exactly. Future signs are an obstacle. Why do you think there are more Future signs in the present than Past signs? Your objective is going to the past and destroy the robot generators to save the future, hence why Future signs stand in your way in the present. Again, they're an obstacle, just like the enemies and hazards in the stages.
