(Super-early) work in progress: Vitruvian Character Display
Still mostly in the sketch stage. But what the hey, might as well publish it. Who knows, I might even get some feedback from viewers. Because I think I need some.
The basic idea, cockamamie as it may be, is a 3d-printable display based on Da Vinci's Vitruvian Man. The display can be used to visually represent your player character in a pen-and-paper rpg. There will be slots for weapons, armor et cetera, and/or maybe slots located next to various body barts to indicate character stats - the slot next to the head can be used to fill in your character's intelligence score, the slot over the stomach his health score, and so on. Lots and lots of design work still to be done obviously, but (I hope) the finished article will appeal to a niche customer base.
Main problem at the moment is I'm working off of the "Demo-Soldier" model originally included in Zbrush.
I've ported it to Sketchup, and made some changes (completely new head, minor changes to the torso, added a rough draft for a pair of y-fronts, and obviously repositioned the arms and legs). But the Demo-Soldier dna is still clearly there.
I'll make numerous more changes to the model before completion, but in the end I'm going to have to evaluate if it is now a completely new and unique model, or if I run any risk of getting copyright claimed into Bolivian.
Anyone watching this is welcome to chime in: Does the model still remind you of the Demo-Soldier (without its clothes subtools), and on a scale of 1 to 10, how likely am I to be committing a crime?
