This is a glitch i found myself back when i played this on my Wii U Virtual Console.

In 5-2, after the spike vertical falling section, there's an grass tuft that contains an Koopa Shell, normally it'd be used to defeat the 2 fish trouter enemies there.
However, if go towards the small space area where the door to the boss room is, and throw the shell there, it'll warp upwards, zipping through the wall for 1 frame before leaving.
Oddly enough, throwing the shell while facing left will cause the shell to not only zip OOB, but also the game will freakout for a second, for unknown reasons. (At the end of the video, i slowed the footage for better visuality)
