Switching From Tech Support to Game Development | ft. Pranay Anumandla #jobs #gamedev #gaming
Juggling night shifts at a local hotel while pursuing an engineering degree during the day, all to financially support his family.
This is the story Pranay Anumandla’s unwavering resilience in #HumansOfGaming
Born in a small town in Telangana, Pranay Anumandla's life was shaped by modest beginnings and big dreams. His father, an auto-rickshaw driver, instilled in him the value of hard work.
In search of a better future, Pranay moved to Warangal right after class 10th to pursue a diploma in Electronics and Communication Engineering. A feat that made him the first local boy from the area to go out for studies. But this was just the start, Pranay worked hard and aced the diploma, helping him to land a lateral entry directly into a full-time B-tech Program in an engineering institute.
However, the financial demons kept haunting Pranay. Due to financial problems Pranay even thought of not joining the engineering college and instead finding a job to support his family. Thankfully, his relatives helped his father to take an educational loan for Pranay’s engineering.
Reluctant to burden his family with the loan payments, he juggled night shifts at local hotels and shops with daytime studies. But even Pranay with all his resilience wasn’t able to focus well on his studies with the night shifts, and the college didn’t provide much support with the placements either.
Even after all his struggles, Pranay had no job.
He explored government exams but realized the lengthy process didn't suit his urgent needs. Refocusing on his passion for electronics, he dedicated his days to upskilling and nights back to the hotel work. Soon Pranay secured a job in the telecom industry with a modest salary of Rs 7000 per month.
Taking this as an experience, he then got a job at Wipro Infotech as a Network Support Engineer, working in the same industry for 4 years. But Pranay's journey in the gaming industry began when he landed a job in PTW as a Player Support Agent.
Within six months, Pranay's excellence led him to mentor new hires. At the same time, he was introduced to new games by his colleagues, and a curious Pranay now just wanted to create some games of his own. He downloaded Unity and started learning from edX.
But as luck would have it, Pranay faced rejection after rejection because he still lacked the deep understanding that is needed for game development. But, Pranay wasn’t one of those who would just give up. Pranay doubled down on learning game development and in this pursuit, he stumbled upon Outscal.
Pranay has not only successfully completed Outscal’s game development program, but with his amazing resilience and creativity now has a rich portfolio of games that shows his deep understanding of the domain.
