This is a basic tutorial on how to beat The Legend of Zelda (Second Quest) using Arbitrary Code Execution (ACE). For this speedrun, you will need to be playing on the Japanese version 1.0, or equivalently, the Japanese Wii Virtual Console or Japanese GameCube Collector's Edition.

Be warned, you can crash the Wii/FDS/GCN with this glitch if done improperly! Using the game to execute code incorrectly can do a myriad of unintended things, most often a simple crash screen, but possibly corrupting the Virtual Console channel's save file!

The "route" basically consists of:
1. Collect the Sword, then Enter Level-2 in Second Quest.
2. Go through Level-2, Collect the Flute, then Leave.
3. Spawn 10 Ghinis outside of Level-6 in Second Quest.
4. Press A+B (Sword + Flute) to Crash the Game
5. If Done Correctly (Very Sensitive to Timing), You See Zelda
6. Go Save Zelda!

Screen Scrolling is employed only to avoid fighting octoroks and zoras, and again to avoid the Lost Woods puzzle. If you want, you can simply walk everywhere and fight/dodge any enemies as needed.

Dying a certain number of times affects the success of the glitch as well, which Sockfolder's video(s) explain a little. Speaking of which, here is Sockfolder's video which explains most of the ACE functionality, setup, and technical timing:

Sockfolder also has a second video which explains another ACE setup (different filenames) which can be used to access a glitched item inventory, though this strategy is slower for a speedrun than simply warping straight to the Zelda room:

Lastly, I would recommend you join the Zelda 1 Speedrunning Discord Server or contacting some of the speedrunners before attempting ACE on any consoles. Again, ACE is a dangerous glitch and not to be taken lightly!
