TheFIX 054: Mirrorless to iOS Processing
Dan Burkholder joins host Seán Duggan for a conversation on alternative digital workflows for processing and printmaking. We start with Dan’s work with creating digital negatives in the early 1990s, his innovative printmaking techniques combining inkjet pigment with traditional platinum printing, and even mixing inkjet with platinum and gold leaf. Dan shares some of his workflow for using wifi to transfer images from his mirrorless camera to an iOS device for processing, delves into iOS HDR processing with Pro HDR X, and a fine overview of final seasoning with Snapseed. In addition to app-specific techniques, we also discuss app workflow issues that touch on when you would apply a certain effect, such as blurring or textures. We also discuss the different ways one might use this approach…for creating rough drafts or proof of concept pieces that you would later process on a computer, to treating the iOS edits as the finished work (apart from final finessing in Photoshop).
