This is why you need 3D LODs in Skyrim
LODs (the look of distant objects) in Skyrim was always one of the biggest problems that was ponting on incredibly outdated graphics engine. But, with tools like TES5LODGen and later DynDOLOD, which many of you are using now, things became better - as with DynDOLOD, you can generate more detailed LODs, and generate much more of them, making distant views much more plesant to look at.
But there's another notorious issue. Pop-ins. And ofc, that's always especially noticably for trees. This happens because LODs in Skyrim are basically ONLY textures - simple 2D images. The don't have meshes (model), thats why no matter how HD the LOD textures will be, trees will still pop-in, because the difference between flat 2D image and actual tree model is huge.
3D LODs is currently the most incredible features of DynDOLOD - it adds MODELS to LODs, making distant trees actually matching the look of their fully-rendered models (just in lower resolution, ofc, for performance sake).
In reality, this gives the result you just saw now. In regular gameplay, tree LODs become indistinguishable from actual trees, almost completely eleminating pop-ins, and just looking great.
I'll make more in-depth demonstration and 3D LODs tutorial later. Cheers!
