Playing the new Touhou game... First impression: shit sure is hard. Now, I generally suck at Touhou, my best achievement being a Hard 1cc in Lotus Land Story, and I haven't got a successful Normal 1cc in any game after Imperishable Night (excluding MarisaB in MoF but that's nothing to be proud of), but I was pretty shocked to be forced to retry on the first stage when I tried this on Easy mode.

It's really fun though, enjoying it a lot more than UFO or Double Spoiler. To me this game seems like a typical Touhou shmup with some elements that I associate with Shoot the Bullet and Samidare mixed in, though that probably tells more about how few shmups I played rather than what the game is really like.

Cirno appears to be the only playable character which I'm not too fond of. I'm not a big fan of the ice fairy and if you shout about her a lot around me, I might get annoyed. It's a refreshing change to be able to play as somebody other than Reimu/Marisa/Aya though.

The thing that makes this shmup different from the other Touhou games is that Cirno can charge up an ice barrier that will protect her from the bullets around it for a short period of time (charging works kinda like it does in Shoot the Bullet and Double Spoiler), which is why I made that comparison with Samidare where you have a shield instead of a bomb.

Here it seems that you do get bombs as you continue to successfully build up shields and earn points and you can see those bombs in the lower left part of the screen, but I haven't understood what gives you new bombs... Anybody figured it out yet?

Don't quite get how you accumulate lives either... If somebody reading this has better understanding of how this game works, please comment or something, I'll probably spend a good portion of my today's free time playing around with it.

Some of the things I found hard to get used in the beginning:

* holding shot will slow you down and make you charge the barrier. If you're used to the other Touhou shooters like me, you'll keep screwing yourself over by building the barrier at the wrong time and won't have one ready when you do need it.

* the walls of bullets are really dense here, even on Easy mode, so efficient use of barriers is needed both for survival and score.

* you need some time before you can put up the barrier. I lose plenty of lives waiting

Anyway, I personally might need some time before I can even 1cc this on Easy (got really close to it on this attempt), it's a really fun game though.
