Trials Of Mana (2020, PC STEAM Demo, Duran Angela Charlotte Gameplay 2020)
1Trials of Mana is a full 3D remake of Seiken Densetsu 3 or Secret of Mana 2 originally released for the Super Nintendo/Famicom back in 1995. This new release is for Windows PC STEAM, and other consoles is slated for 2nd Quarter release in 2020. The game has been published and developed by Square Enix.
SO! having played the original Seiken Densetsu 3 and even covered one of the many endings here on my channel with an all male team, I start my venture into this remake using Duran, Angela, and Charlotte, the classic Tank, Mage, Healer party. So what did I think? carry on reading to find out.
Graphically, the game is absolutely stunning. I AM aware that some people HATE these type of bright colored cartoony looking 3D cell shaded graphics BUT cartoony bright colored graphics is what the Secret of Mana franchise are well known for and I am absolutely glad they didn't change the game's style just to please the gamer that wants ALL graphics to look something like Witcher 3 or something similar.
Now, there are a few places I noticed graphical glitches or late graphics loading after a scene has loaded but these are minor issues that can be sorted before main release, after all.. this IS a demo and people need to realize it's NOT going to be 100% perfect, gamers can be the most cynical and hard to please people of any subject matter. I have noticed also that some of the stances and poses characters makes, make no sense at all with the scene they are currently in.
Music, this game's NEW musical OST scores are fantastic and I LOVE the fact that Square Enix decided to allow the player to also switch to using the original OST scores also, that's a nice touch which they also added into the Secret of Mana remake also. All sound effects for skills, magics, attacks seem nice and fit in well also. I did however notice some delaying or no voice for skills sometimes.
The game's voice acting is a great addition, though I DID start to cringe every time Charlotte started to talk with her Ws and not being able to say the L word, that got to me within the first 2 minutes, I quite regretted choosing her at that point.
I love the revised menu and ring system, also the new shortcut menu for using skills and items are very well done also. I used a controller to play this game and it took me a little time to get used to it, one annoying thing is they assigned the 'Accept' button to be the jump button also, so it gets super annoying when you try to pick stuff up and then jump instead, this happens a lot so be prepared for that.
There's a hell of a lot more I could go into about this demo but I won't because i'd like you to go try the Demo out for yourselves, it's free so why not?
Would I recommend this game as it is? HELL YES! go pre-order the full game right now and play the demo with all the characters to see all their stories, thank God the demo allows you to play every character from the beginning up to just after the 1st boss :D
