In this final part I am finishing up the mainquest in the Shivering Isles. I am doing pretty well and don't die that often this time I think. Most of this playtrough went pretty smooth and although I haven't checked many of the sidequests and explored every corner of this place, I still think by doing the mainquest here gives a good indication what this game and this DLC has to offer.
When Oblivion came out probably about 20 years ago I didn't think much of the game because I had played Morrowind before it and Oblivion missed some of the charms that Morrowind had. Also there was no fast travel in Morrowind and funny fact I didn't even realize there was a thing in Oblivion like fast travel until almost at the end game since I wasn't really used to it and didn't expect it to be in this game.
Anyway the biggest problem I had with Oblivion was that it lacked the sense and feeling of competing factions and politics that you can really feel in Morrowind and in Skyrim in a sense. The Great Houses in Morrowind and the drama around them for example. There are no Great Houses in Cyrodiil ofcourse but I have no idea who is in the Elder Council except for Ocato and what kind of political infighting they might have. Also I think it lacked some factions like the Imperial Legion. Some people might say your xcharacter is a criminal at the start of the game so that won't make any sense, but I disagree, you are a criminal at the start of almost every game, also in Morrowind and Skyrim and you can still join the Imperial Legion. Also I think the game was a little bit underdeveloped. They could have made a city like the Imperial City much more interesting and bigger since its one of the biggest and most important cities in all of Tamriel.
On the positive sides however I think the mainquest in the base game as well as in all its DLCs were pretty good. Also some factions were well developed like the Dark Brotherhood for example. They could maybe have expanded it a bit more by also showing the sanctuaries of the Dark Brotherhood in the other cities for example but still it was pretty good. For me it took me a while to really get to like Oblivion but after a while I did, there are some really good quests and fun dungeons to explore in the game. Also the features like buying houses and horses is a nice addition.
Anyway thats my opinion and these were the 10 episodes of me trying out Oblivion. I will go back to this game again after a while but since I also have a lot of other games to play it might take a while. However what I am going to do a lot sooner is playing Morrowind and Skyrim and also level a character and at least try to finish the mainquest in the base game.
