Why? Because J.R.R.Tolkein is a bad writer who undermined Frodo's journey with deus ex machina. He could have had them walk back. Get a lift from the Rider's of Rohan. Have the Giant Eagles fear the power of the Ring. Establish that Sauron's army would shoot them down on the way there, but not on the way back, or write a less indulgent book like The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe that wasn't just a Trojan Horse for his indulgent conlang undermined by lame "eucastrophe".
The producer Peter Jackson should have recognised the huge flaw in J.R.R.Tolkein's novels, and realised his pathetic excuses in the books would never translate to the movie screen, and change more details than he did in his adaptation in order to avoid all the fucking MEMEs. Consequently, The Lord of the Rings is shit, and Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings movie adaptation is shit.
This is such a massive flaw it makes this the worst film franchise. Star Wars is next, followed by the MCU due to Carol Danvers making the Avengers utterly superfluous as despite being in the timeline since 1995 she remains unaccountably unsummoned during most big threats they face, Terminator saga is next worst, Snyderverse is barely flawed by comparison, Nolanverse is barely flawed at all.
