Volvo Ailsa Bus 276 (WTS276T) Journey From Bridgeton To Bishopton MBF .....Scotland.....2025.....
Hello all, in this video i record footage, on an old exDundee Tayside buses , Mark 2, Volvo Ailsa bus , fleet numbered 276 ( reg WTS276T). This bus is in preservation.
Bus 276 is a unique bus, because it has a mk3 engine/transmission, coupled to its orginal mk2, Hamworthy rear drive axle, used on the mk1 and mk2 Volvo Ailsas buses.
I discovered 276 in spring 1988, and I've been facinated with it ever since. There are no other Tayside buses like that.
The Volvo Ailsa mk3 bus model, has the Volvo straight rear drive axle, instead of the Hamworthy drop centre double reduction drive axle, used on mk1 and 2.
Also the mk1 and mk2 Tayside Ailsas, had automatic SCG gearboxes, whereas the mk3 ,had Voith Automatic transmission with built in torque converter, and hydraulic retarder ,to assist the brakes. This will be heard on bus 276.
( the Voith transmissions sound totally different to the SCG gearboxes)
I go for a during on Volvo Ailsa bus 276, from Bridgeton Bus Museum(Glasgow) to Bishopton (out skirts of Glasgow), for the MBF ( model bus federation ), held in Bishopton Community Centre, for Sunday, 2nd November 2025 event.
I hope you enjoy my video, and thankyou for selecting it.
