This game has a fairly popular exploit with upgrade stones - you are able to duplicate as many as you want with a simple menu loophole. It turns out that the same menu loophole also allows you to hand out promotions to arbitrary characters.

You need at least one lv. 100 character to do this. While in the promotion menu, have the cursor on the lv. 100 character and then press up / down and 'confirm' at same time. If your timing is right, then you should see the promotion pop-up message appear while a different character is highlighted in the background. Accepting gives the promotion to the wrong character.

Since the original character is not promoted, they stay at lv. 100 and you can instantly repeat the exploit. Needless to say, this streamlines getting promotions quite a lot.

Newly promoted characters still don't get new item slots since that is something you unlock by reaching lv. 100 during your first or second promotion.

Promoting a character over lv. 9 brings them back to lv. 0. This disables their secondary skill as well as the use of upgrade stones, but as far as I can tell you get it all back once you promote the character again the next time.

I'm convinced that in any longer speedrun category of this game one of the most important goals is getting one character to lv. 100. After that there is little stopping you from giving promotions and massive stat upgrades to everyone on your team. You can max out your attack and speed stats quite easily after hitting this milestone, trivializing both combat and possibly navigation for the rest of the run.

Don't go overboard with this in casual play, of course. Otherwise it ruins the fun. Exploit responsibly, alright?
