FILMMAKER BIOS:

Matthew Goodhue, Los Angeles, CA

- How long have you been making movies?
I played music in high school and college, and liked to film performance/hanging out footage to use for music videos, and also just to have documented for whatever reason. I started working in documentary production when I moved to Los Angeles, which then led me back to performance and music videos as I made some friends out here who are musicians. I made my first scripted short in 2017 and have been writing and trying to make movies since.

- Favorite horror film?
Rosemary’s Baby, The Shining

- Inspiration for the short?
Adam Halferty (who plays the Vampire) and I were talking about making a music video for one of his songs. I had the idea to keep the camera attached to the car for the whole video, finding different ways we can move the story forward with edits and camera placement. It only made sense that the final shot would have to be the car flying away, like Chitty-Chitty Bang Bang. Adam happened to do this funny vampire impersonation already, and with that, we landed on a vampire story.

- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
Watching The Royal Tenenbaums by Wes Anderson was the first time I really thought about movies as something somebody thinks up and makes. I love his writing, his dialogue, and the world-building of his movies. Also, I'm very inspired by Robert Altman and the way he makes movies. The dreaminess he instills in his films is unlike anything else.

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
I wrote and directed my first feature film, called Woe, at the end of 2019 and it’s being released by Gravitas Ventures and Kamikaze Dogfight on June 15th, where it will be available on VOD. It’s about a family who ignores their grief and how that manifests over time. Please, check it out!

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
Just the love of horror stories and the creative ways people tell them through filmmaking.

------------------

Brayden Read (South African studying in Austin, Tx)

- I have been making films since I was 15

- Favourite horror film is Evil Dead 2

-NOTRI was shot in Austin, Tx.

- The film opens with a tombstone with the name Sam Fulci Aster. Which is a reference to the three filmmakers that inspired it; Sam Raimi, Lucio Fulci and Ari Aster.

- I truly admire Werner Herzog but if we are talking horror, you can't beat early Peter Jackson.

- Horror was a lot of fun in high school, throwing blood all over my classmates was enticing enough for me to get into making movies.

- I don't know about remake, but I would love to do a unique entry in the Toho Godzilla franchise.

- I have a new film called Strings about the joy of the end of the world at this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8PetpUX9VQ0&t=1s

- WOD seems like a welcoming community that is perfect for breeding creativity amongst horror filmmakers alike.
----------------
Jeff Kacmarynski, IL

- How long have you been making movies?
Since the 80s with a Super 8 camera. Seriously making movies for the past ten years.

- Favorite horror film?
Alien

- Location where short was filmed?
Busboom Castle, outside of Champaign, IL
(A real working castle!)

- Inspiration for the short?
Screenplay was written by Shelby Koehne David Busboom. They were inspired by silent films and 50s drive in.

- Who is a filmmaker you admire?
Alejandro Jodorowsky

- Why did you get into making horror movies?
After seeing Alien in a theater in 1979, I knew what I wanted to do.

- If you could remake any horror movie, which would it be?
None! That bring said, I always thought a super serious / dark version of Halloween 3 could be intense (I'm a huge fan of that movie)

- Do you have anything new you'd like to promote or do you have anything in development currently?
My psychedelic sci fi / horror feature ESSENCE, and my gory samurai exploitation film, WITCH ON A WALKER, both staring Lynn Lowry.

- What is it about WOD that appealed to you when you joined its community?
The chance it provides for independent filmmakers to showcase their work, and it's a part of Bloody Disgusting!
