World of Warships - First Look: Tier VI Premium Italian Destroyer Leone
Here's our First Look at Tier VI Premium Italian Destroyer Leone.
OVERVIEW
+ First destroyer of the Regia Marina to enter World of Warships.
+ Health pool is average; armor is comparable to her tier.
+ She has a LOT of guns. Eight barrels gives her more guns than any other Tier VI destroyer, and because they are all centerline-mounted, she can fire them all at the same target. Reload is very slow, though - a Japanese-like 8.5 seconds, even slower than Gaede's 150mm guns - so like her IJN counterparts, this is largely about the alpha damage. Leone fares pretty well in this deparment, with an HE DPM that is behind only Farragut at her tier. The mediocre performance of her AP shells, however, keeps her AP DPM in the middle of the pack. Her turret traverse speed is fairly average, but slow enough that close-range duels may be more challenging than her gun loadout would expect.
+ Her torpedoes, too, are unusual; with a 12.0 km range and a 51 knot speed, they bear many similarities to the infamous "sea mines" of USS Sims at Tier VII. Incidentally, these are the same torpedoes currently found on Premium cruisers Duca d'Aosta and Abruzzi. Leone's torps reload very quickly as well; she can put a pair of fish in the water from each launcher every sixty seconds.
+ AA defense is essentially confined to harsh language, as you would expect from a mid-tier destroyer.
+ Slowest T6 destroyer at 34 knots. Handling characteristics look solid.
+ Stealth is average; 6.3 km detection when fully rigged for stealth.
+ Standard consumables: Damage Control Party, Smoke, and Engine Boost. Nothing unusual here. Her smoke duration is less than the average: 69 seconds, compared to 81 seconds for the French, Japanese, and Russians; 40 seconds for the British; 61 seconds for the Germans, and a whopping 118 seconds for the US Navy.
SUMMARY:
Leone seems to be an interesting mix. Her guns and detection radius give her the ability to be a bit of a bully to other destroyers if she wants to be; her long-range, spammable torpedoes give her the same capability against enemy capital ships. If she handles as well as the Italian cruisers already in the game do, she should be fun to drive. Right now, she looks like a servicable mid-tier destroyer that might have a place in Ranked seasons.
