World of Warships - King of the Sea VIII: Day 1 (Swiss Stage)
Change is the nature of gaming titles that invest a lot of time in player versus player action. Starcraft. World of Warcraft. League of Legends. The cycle is the same. Players adapt. Evolve. Find weaknesses. And exploit strong mechanics.
Sometimes, though, radical change is necessary. A mechanic - a system - is so flawed, it has to be torn down and rebuilt from the ground up. Such was the nature of aircraft carriers in World of Warships.
We saw it tournament after tournament here on North America; teams without an incredibly skilled carrier captain failed to advance or simply declined to enter in King of the Sea. But today… the game has changed.
A staggering fifty-one teams have signed up to vie for the right to be the next King of the Sea on the North American server. Many are old faces. Defending champions Devastating Strike. Previous champions Absolute Territory. Finalists like PSV and Buenas Noches. Or simply teams like TNG, Rogue Fleet, or MIA, back again for another shot at glory.
But twenty-seven of those teams have never played in King of the Sea before. Today begins their journey to find out if the 8.0 apocalypse has changed competitive Warships... forever.
It will take four days of play and hundreds of games to find our next champion. Has so little changed that a previous champion might repeat? Or has the carrier rework re-written the book on competitive play in World of Warships? Could a new and unfamiliar team wrest the crown away from reigning champions Devastating Strike?
Buckle up, Warshippers. It’s a new day, and a new King of the Sea.
