"You won't help mermaid? Guess I have to break your neck!" Dragon Quest XI S part 30
We followed Rab on a mountain path. It took until night time to get to our destination. At the end was the Altar of souls. He told us he and King needed to perform a ritual to send all the souls that died here back to Yggdrasil. We saw Jade there, she made some preparations for us. Rab said that people killed by monsters could not return to Yggdrasil on their own accord, that's why their ancestors have devised this ritual.
With our bright torches, we light a fire. The souls took forms of pink butterflied of light that fluttered all the way to the world tree in the distance. After we were done, Rab asked if King's mom left him anything. We gave him the letter. He realized after reading this what happened, that King was sent to Heliodor thanks to his mother's idea, without her knowing what would happen.
Rab asked us if we could leave him alone. We asked the others were jade was. Apparently, she was back in the mountain path, so we walked her way. King saw her and noticed tears in her eyes. She said we weren't supposed to see that. She was thinking of Eleanor, King's mom. Jade said her real mother had died not long after she was born, so Eleanor was like a mother to her.
They did all kinds of things together when she was a child. She was excited when Eleanor had a baby, she was practically getting a little brother. It began to rain, Jade remembered it raining like this on the day she last saw Eleanor.
It was then that we spotted Heliodor knights roaming around. We tried to sneak our way back to the altar, but it seemed they had gotten in the way too. Someone behind us noticed us and called out to his fellow knights. It didn't take long before we were surrounded.
Jade kicked their asses so we could move further away. But they were persistent, even worse, Hendrik had found us too. Whilst King fought Hendrik, Jade was beating up some of the knights. King noticed he was close to the edge of the mountain. This distraction gave Hendrik the chance to floor King.
Jade told Hendrik to stop. He turned around to look at her and realized who she was. Jade was the princess of Heliodor. The daughter of the king that was thought to be dead. King was slipping off the edge, so Jade ran at him. She was able to get past Hendrik, for he was still trying to comprehend what he saw.
Jade held onto King as they were falling, saying she won't let him go like last time. Later, King woke up in a cabin near the river. Jade came back with some firewood. Whilst covered in blankets, the two sat in front of a fire. She told us her story. How King's mom ran away with the both of them as the monsters destroyed Dundrasil.
She gave King to Jade just and ran as bait for the monsters so she could escape with him. Alas, in a river, she let go of king, and they drifted apart. Jade had felt guilty for this, wishing Rab had fished him out instead of her. The two did come to Heliodor, but only to hear what madness had been spread around about King being the dark spawn.
Rab told her someone must be controlling the king's mind. As the raining stopped, sunlight shone through the windows. We figured it was time to head out. Hendrik met us outside. He said he was glad to see Jade alive, but she must return to him. She must not be with King.
She told him she has to side with King no matter what, and asks him to leave us alone. Hendrik said he couldn't disobey the king. If she stands with King, then he must fight her too. The two fight, with Hendrik having the upper-hand whilst on his horse.
As she was knocked down, Hendrik charged at her. Jade acted weak, and because of that, Hendrik couldn't help but be reminded of the little girl he had to protect. In a moment of hesitation, Jade managed to kick the horse in a way so it would throw Hendrik off. She took the horse for herself and grabbed King with her.
We rode Hendrik's horse back to the ruins where our friends waited.
We told Rab what happened. Rab told us he would've liked a word with Hendrik, but it probably didn't matter. An evil was behind the scenes, Dundrasil was not the first nation to be destroyed in this manner.
The one behind it was named...Mordegon. He had to travel the whole world just to learn his name. The more Rab read about him, the more he was convinced he was behind it. He told King he was the hero, and thus, it was our duty to stop this evil. We had to get to the Life tree, Yggdrasil, to gain power to stop him.
Veronica and Serena also said that the tree should have something, according to legend, that would help stop the lord of shadows. Rab gave us the Rainbough, it should show us something. At first, nothing happened, everyone was king of miffed.
After walking out of the area, we got a vision from the Rainbough. We needed six colored orbs and get to the altar below the tree. A path should open. Well, Erik already had the red orb. And the runner-up price for the tournament was the Yellow orb, which Rab already had...So, four more to go...
