ZEPHON is an Indie, Hex Based, 4X Turn Based Tactics SciFi Strategy that feels like a Post apocalyptic, yet dark fantasy, futuristic take on Civ 5, plus a huge heaping of Lovecraftian madness on top!
Plus Procedural Generation random maps! It’s wild!

Warhammer 40K + Civ 5!?
Kinda!
I get huge Warhammer 40K influences here, with the foul Xenos having corrupted Holy Terra, with the plague / algae spreading across the land like chaos, corrupting it, yet the corruption has already occurred, seeping deep into the planet and making it it’s new home; and you and your people are just trying to survive and somehow thrive on a land that is no longer your own!
Earth has become a chaos world, where humans must play catch up to compete with the foul monsters that now roam the world, and wish to make it theirs!

The Units:
The units here look and sound great.
Zephon is doing the Civ 5 thing, where each unit occupies 1 hex, no stacks of doom here!
Unlike in Civ 5, units here have both a move and an action, you can make all your movement, then make your attack; nice!
Though, also like in Civ 5, attacking does still end your turn by default, so the player must carefully decide when you make their attack.
Also, unlike Civ 5, many units in Zephon have an overwatch ability; letting them take a shot if an enemy moves into their attack range; make sure you’re using it!
In Zephon, be careful moving, as each movement order issued uses all that unit’s movement.
Don’t move hex by hex here, it will take all your move! Think ahead!

Units lvl up as they get kills too; with each unit that damaged the killed target getting exp, nice.
There are hero units here too, with hero abilities unlocking as they gain lvls.
These abilities cost no ap to activate, and are on a cooldown; making the hero feel very powerful and worthwhile.

The Cities:
In Zephon, your city is your main character.
While both your units and your heroes can lvl, it is with your city that you have the most personality, customization and control.
Your city can expand and specialize toward whichever way you wish, focusing on trooper production, vehicles, energy, minerals, food, research, influence, cyborgs, and more!
Like Civ 5, you claim territory to expand your city.
You can build multiple things each turn with your construct yard, such as claiming land and constructing a new building on a tile at the same time; just make certain to watch your resources!
Unlike in Civ 5, each of your structures can create stuff; you are not limited to just 1 production queue here! Good!
This should make recovery after losing a stack of units much faster, with perhaps upkeep being more of a bottleneck on unit numbers.
Also, like in Civ 5, cities can bombard nearby enemy units; making them tough to take, and not something to have to completely babysit; good.

Note: This is an early look at the demo for ZEPHON so any bugs or other oddness is not representative of the final product.
Still, ZEPHON is a fun and immersive 4X Turn-based Tactics Sci-Fi Strategy that feels incredible, and is easily worth a wishlist and a watch.
