0We run into another relatively mundane level. The interesting thing about this level is that it shows a bit of how standards of quality shift as we travel just months after Quake's release. This sort of level would have been decent, if not rather good, by the standards of July/August. But November means we have run across a good range of heavily detailed levels with lethal traps around every corner, making levels where you just walk from room to room feel rather meh.
Another big problem comes in the form of a really large underwater area. Not only is it massive, which makes it tedious to cross, but it also is almost pitch black which means you have no idea where you are even going through most of it. Easily the most annoying part of the level.
Outside of the water area, the biggest thing going on here is just straightforward combat. You get a lot of weapons and plenty of ammo, so nothing feels too challenging or lethal.
A level like this feels a lot like something from September, perhaps like The Cult, which was pretty decent at the time of release. If this was made in September, I might have found it a great new level. With the massive change in quality found in October and November, however, this just ends up feeling like a filler level.
