Soul Fighter gameplay for the Sega Dreamcast
Various clips from the first level of Soul Fighter, a beat 'em up/brawler for the Sega Dreamcast.
This game has some issues, but I still enjoy playing it. It runs smooth, has pretty crisp visuals, and the combat feels good (at least when you are making contact). Unfortunately, you are locked into single player, have limited continues depending on which style of mode you are playing, and there is a forced fetch-style "soul" gimmick where you have to locate every enemy on the map and eradicate them in order to trigger the boss. It's not bad in the beginning, but it becomes extremely cumbersome by the second stage (enemies not spawning properly for instance, making finding them a chore). Had the soul mechanic been ditched (or implemented differently as an optional power-up system of some kind instead), and had a two-player mode been incorporated (surely the engine could have handled it, based on the smooth framerate and the amount of action on screen already), then I think this game would be about as well regarded as something like Zombie Revenge. If you enjoy solo brawlers, then give it a try, but be prepared to be extremely frustrated at the later levels of the game.
