"Skyscraper" (2018) written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber is a seriously bad action film with zero substance or reason to view it. I guess this film is technically more mediocre than bad, but mediocrity is a huge sin in my books and my score will be reflecting that.

Former military man Will Sawyer (Dwayne Johnson) is now living the family life and is a security consultant. Will is fortunate enough to receive an opportunity to check the safety of the world's tallest building. His family becomes one of the first families to live in the sky on the tower. The tower gets attacked by terrorists and the building catches fire at the halfway mark, meaning anyone above the fire mark can't get to the ground safely, but Will is determined to find a way to reach his family and save them from the flames.

Skyscraper already starts off rocky because if you read that plot synopsis I just typed out and thought of 9/11, you're not the only one. I don't know if Rawson Marshall Thurber was intentionally paralleling the real life Al-Qaeda attacks on the World Trade Center, but regardless, it rubs me the wrong way and is too close to a real life tragic event for me to get immersed and have fun in a fantasy film. Dwayne Johnson has won me over as an actor over the years and I'm already a fan of Neve Campbell because "Scream" (1996) is currently my third favorite film of all time, but honestly both of them give lackluster awkward performances and there was no chemistry in their relationship. The main plot of the film does not get explained until there is only 26 minutes on the run time (I made sure to personally check) remaining, making it hard to care or follow along.

The film's CGI is egregious and overpowering. The green screens are so blatant that it's pretty laughable. The action is okay I guess but it would have been better if it was R rated and not PG-13. Rawson Marshall Thurber is known for comedy but there is only two jokes in the entire film and they're pretty blink or you'll miss it types.

Skyscraper is genuinely one of the worst action films to come out of Hollywood. I am shocked that this one is not rated lower on average by critics.
