Loaded, for the Sega Saturn, is essentially a top-down/overhead shooter where the player is tasked with finding coloured key cards and, on occasion, other objects which are used to access areas within a level, exit said level and thus aid progression through the game. Standing between the player and this task are hordes of enemies that need eradicating.

Unfortunately there appears to be nothing more to the gameplay than this basic formula with the result that, while the game initially starts out fun, boredom soon sets in quite quickly due to repetition of the same tasks. It's certainly not a game that will tax the old grey matter.

From a graphical point of view the game is decent given the limitations of the overhead viewpoint with some nice lighting and shading effects. Sound effects and music are also good. Also of note is the imaginative cast of characters designed for selection.

It's just a shame more of that imagination didn't extend to the gameplay department. However the two-player mode, simple gameplay and frantic nature of the shooting action makes Loaded great if you have a half-hour to kill.
