So I express surprise, but yes, Capcom Japan - eager to sell to the lucrative Western coin-op arcade market - did in fact make a World War 2 themed shmup in which Japan is the bad guy. 1942 is the first in the 19XX series (note: 1945 Strikers is not one of them) and this NES port was done by Micronics and it's... ... ... honestly, really quite awful. But we do finish it, so there's that.
