What is known about the 2021 Porsche 911 Turbo S is that it will use a 3.8-liter flat-six makes 640 horsepower and 590 pounds-feet of torque. In Cabriolet trim, the car reaches 62 mph in 2.7 seconds and has a top speed of 205 mph.
The Porsche 911 Turbo has always been a mighty thing, with supercar-level power and speed in abundance. The new 992-generation Turbo S continues the tradition with a crazy 640 horsepower—nearly as much as the old GT2 RS.
Cars are about so much more than their spec-sheet numbers, but the new Turbo S's are so impressive, we have to start there. Porsche says the coupe will run from 0-60 mph in 2.6 seconds and to 124 mph in 8.9 seconds, which is a second faster than the old 991 Turbo S. A car that no sane person would ever call slow. The quarter-mile should arrive in 10.5 seconds, and the top speed is 205 mph. Damn.
Power comes from a 3.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six. Even though the displacement is the same as the old 911 Turbo unit, this engine is based on the 3.0-liter used in the new Carrera models. The turbos have variable turbine geometry, while the charge-air coolers are larger and relocated to sit right behind the engine. It puts out 60 more horsepower than the engine used in the previous Turbo S, and 37 more lb-ft of torque, for a total of 590. The engine is paired with an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox and an all-wheel drive system that can send up to 62 percent of the engine torque to the front axle, if the need arises.
