For a certain era of Call of Duty player, Shipment is one of the most beloved and odd maps in any multiplayer game. The map made its franchise debut in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and its defining characteristic was being almost too small to function ... almost.
The tiny map, which is really just a loose collection of shipping containers thrown onto a grassy field somewhere in the former USSR, was perfect for the good old Xbox Live “1v1 me bro,” challenges, but when you have more than four players loaded into the game, things started to get a little strange.
The map is so small and puts players so close together that it was nearly impossible to take more than five steps without finding something to shoot at. If your team was losing, the enemy team was guaranteed to camp the maps spawn points and kill you endlessly, until you were lucky enough to respawn in one of their blind spots. If your team took back over, then it was your turn to camp. It was weird, and awful, and the absolute best.
Shipment entered the latest Call of Duty iteration — also called Modern Warfare — late last year. But it wasn’t until Jan. 7 that developer Infinity Ward added a new 5v5 Shipment 24/7 playlist that let players indulge in all the chaotic nostalgia they could handle. This new playlist replaced the former 24/7 Shoot House playlist, another small map favorite.
