Having somebody leave the game on the first turn speeds the game a lot, it allows the other 3 players to take advantage of the empty space and trade with less fear since they don't have to prepare for fighting 3 enemies instead of 2. It also gives advantages to the players that are next to the afk area, since they can promote pawns without risking loosing the piece.
