4th Opening Day Start
0The Chicago White Sox begin the new season at home on Opening Day, as they face division rivals, the Kansas City Royals.
The rivalry between the Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals can be attributed to a series of events. The main event that fueled this rivalry was the 2015 Royals-White Sox brawl at the US Cellular Field. It all started when Yordano Ventura fielded a ball from Adam Eaton in the bottom of the seventh and apparently mouthed some remarks as Eaton jogged down to first base. Ventura threw the ball to first base and Adam Eaton was called out. However, the two players jogged towards each other. Soon the benches emptied and a brawl began. Several players, including Lorenzo Cain and Jeff Samardzija were ejected and Ventura was also later fined by the MLB for creating a conflict. The rivalry between the Chicago White Sox and the Kansas City Royals has been mainly about this particular brawl.
Aside from the animosity, the White Sox has the edge in not only head-to-head, but also on Opening Day. They won 6 out of the 7 encounters and looks to continue the dominance in 8th encounter against the Royals.
