From morning shootaround on May 28, 2016 before Golden State Warriors (2-3) vs OKC Thunder (3-2), at Chesapeake Energy Solutions Arena in Oklahoma City, OK. All interview audio has been boosted to 200% of the original.

Initial thoughts (will add timestamps in comments later today):

• Hopefully this will give you a sense of what being around the team has been. Most people don’t give a second thought to morning shootaround or behind-the-scenes. They only want to watch the game and their lives are determined by wins and losses. I knew even way back then that I was blessed to be within arm’s reach of the greatest basketball players and all-time team(s) on Planet Earth. That’s why I never took it for granted and treated every moment as an important moment.

• Usually Klay Thompson ends morning shootaround early and this day was no exception.

• Media was going at Steph — he was the unanimous 2x MVP at that time — because in the three losses this series, he had been shooting 22/59 (37%) on all field goals and just 11/35 (31%) on threes. Remember, he was coming off an ankle in the opening game of the 2016 NBA Playoffs vs the Houston Rockets, then in Game 4 he sprained his MCL, although he did come back in Game 4 of the WCS to score 40 at the Portland Trail Blazers.

• Little did anyone know, even Coach Steve Kerr, who said he expected Curry to rise to the occasion as do other greats like Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan do, that Klay would own the spotlight. And Steph did come through with a 31-10-9 output on just 3 turnovers, greatly overshadowed of course by Klay’s epic 41 points on 11 threes.

• Great to see the clips of guys like Andrew Bogut, Leandro Barbosa (who was mentioned in the Q&A by Kerr) and James Michael McAdoo, including a rare glimpse of him shooting threes with Andre Iguodala and Harrison Barnes.

• The scrums! The jockeying for position with a camera man and his traditional TV camera bullying out everyone. So annoying, although I understand they have a job to do. It amazes me that the typical TV camera has not evolved much over the years. Alas, I’d do anything to have a post-pandemic world where we can have scrums and get knocked in the head by such heavy equipment and barely being able to hear the interviewee again.

• In 2016, I was still figuring out the best way to deliver off-the-beaten-path media for Warriors fans. Nowadays I would have uploaded footage of at least two or three Warriors players IN ADDITION TO all the Instagram Stories and other social-media-platform behind-the-scenes fun stuff. So... all the footage I have from Game 6 in OKC is from shootaround, pregame and postgame. I don’t have Klay postgame because it would be covered by everyone, so I went to the Warriors locker room to film Draymond, Bogut and Iguodala.

This contains our exclusive footage from that day. During this COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve looked back in our archives and discovered a lot of stuff that has been unlisted in the past few years. At one point in 2018, we were forced by the NBA to remove all videos that were longer than two minutes, even though countless other media outlets have been posting and leaving their own similar footage, whether here on YouTube or other social media platforms such as Twitter: To this day, we do not know why there was a bone to pick with us. You can see in various clips where we are fighting just as hard as the next reporter or camera man to get our media. Perhaps it is because our most popular video to date has been Steph Curry’s 93/100 threes at practice which of course took a few minutes to film for Curry to complete 100 or more shots; maybe there are forces in play where they don’t want us to have that up — which would run counter to increasing fandom and viewership 🤷🏻‍♂️ https://youtu.be/nXCol8YeqxQ
