138Welcome to my new Let's Play of Don't Starve Reign of Giants! In this run I will be playing as Wendy in a Lights Out world, surviving as long as possible.
Finding a live bird is the main goal of this LP. The only way to acquire a live bird at night (besides world-hopping or using Wicker's Birds of the World) is as a gift from a Catcoon.
Catcoons give gifts based on seven item tiers of differing probabilities. Tier 1 has an 80% chance, tier 2 has an 8% chance, etc. The tier is indicated by the number of "dry heaves" a catcoon makes before producing its gift. We will get very excited if it heaves exactly six times because all three birds are in that tier.
Once an item tier is selected, an item is chosen at random from the group. Tier six has a 0.79% chance of being selected, and there are eight possible rewards from that table. Meaning each item has a 0.1% chance of getting selected. Because all three birds are attainable in this tier, our chances of receiving a bird are 0.3%. That's less than half the drop rate of a Krampus Sack.
Worldgen settings are as follows: Lights Out preset; "more" Catcoons; "more" of each giant. Everything else default.
