A concept car created by Ford. - 2003 Ford Model U Review
Dubbed 'the next Model T' by Ford, the Model U represents a modern-day form of transit that is urban, multifunctional, and innovative, just as the Model T was in its day. Propelled by a supercharged hydrogen-powered four-cylinder engine that emits nearly zero pollutants, the Model U is made almost entirely of green materials, including recyclable polyester seats, a corn-based canvas roof, sunflower seed engine oil, and soy-based seat foam and a resin tailgate. Model U's versatility is evident in its reconfigurable interior and exterior. Inside, there's an innovative slot system that allows rear seats to be moved forward or removed to create a pickup bed. Moreover, there are slots for a DVD player, a computer, games, armrests, wireless switches, a rearview mirror, sun visors, and even a microphone. On the outside, Model U can be configured as an SUV or as a pickup, and the power retractable canvas roof offers a convertiblelike perspective. Model U also features several technologies, including a night-vision heads-up display, adaptive front headlights, a stereo camera-based pre-crash sensing system, and a Ford-patented TrafficView system that extends a driver's forward view.
