Writing partnerships can be a very tenuous collaboration. Who’s right in a disagreement? Who gets to write what scene? Who does the final polish on the script? For every writing pair that works out, there are scores that end up in flames. Yet Bruce Cameron and Cathryn Michon have thrown caution to the wind -- hell, they’ve doubled down and tossed fuel into this raging bonfire – because they’re writing partners and they’re married. How they’re both still alive is a mystery that will never be solved.
In all seriousness, the pair have worked together on numerous projects including A Dog’s Purpose and the sequel A Dog’s Journey (both based on Cameron’s own novels). The duo seems to have a very tight working relationship, and their easy-going personalities avoiding the pitfalls of failed-writer-collabs past. And yet… what happens if the two ever disagree about a scene or a line? Per Cameron, the answer always lies in: cooking.
In the following interview with screenwriters Bruce Cameron and Cathryn Michon, they discuss writing together and being married, their biggest disagreement on the A Dog’s Journey script, and how cooking brings them together.
