I get the idea they're going for here, but between your hobbled movement (with limited dash), the lack of time in most cases to actually get to any hiding spots, and the claustrophobic environment, it just doesn't feel all that worth it? Like, Clock Tower, a clear inspiration, gave you a solid chance to run and hide from most encounters and felt like it provided a fighting chance. That, and being thrust into the story with little to no explanation as to why anyone should care besides "a girl disappeared" doesn't help at all.
Maybe it's more of a draw to players with more patience, but that is definitely not me. Sorry.
