The Invincible is a first-person sci-fi narrative adventure developed by Starward Industries and based on the 1964 novel by renowned Polish author Stanisław Lem. Set in a retro-futuristic universe inspired by Cold War-era space race aesthetics, the game follows the story of Yasna, an astrobiologist who is part of a scientific mission on the distant planet Regis III.
The story begins when Yasna wakes up alone on Regis III with her memory partially fragmented. The mission she was part of has gone awry, and several members of her crew are missing. As she explores the eerie, barren desert landscapes of the planet, she encounters the remnants of advanced autonomous machines, mysterious radio signals, and traces of a vanished civilization.
Yasna's journey is guided by her communications with Astrogator Novik, her supervisor back on the orbital ship. Through this contact and discoveries made during exploration, Yasna uncovers the tragic fate of her colleagues, the dangerous power of the planet's native technologies, and the consequences of human curiosity colliding with something far beyond comprehension.
The game grapples with philosophical themes such as technological determinism, free will, and the limits of human understanding. The ending depends on the player's choices—ranging from confronting the unknown to retreating in the face of it—leading to different emotional conclusions based on Yasna’s personal and scientific values.
