Here's the end product of a lesson that I did out of the Adobe book After Effects CS5 Classroom in a Book. I messed up and made the adjustment mask too big and it runs into the text.

This is a screen capture of the project and not the actual export so the quality is not as good as what I am seeing in the render.

The rotoscope tool in After Effects is quickly becoming my favorite tool.
