All New BMW i5 eDrive40 2024 - Visual REVIEW, Features, exterior&interior
The 2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 Marks a New Era for the 5 Series\n\nBMW is embracing electrification in a big way, and the new i5 is the latest model to join their EV lineup. As the first ever fully electric 5 Series, the 2024 BMW i5 eDrive40 brings zero-emission driving to BMW's iconic midsize luxury sedan. I recently had the chance to get behind the wheel of the eDrive40 model to see how it measures up.\n\nPerformance is a highlight in the i5 eDrive40, with its single rear-mounted electric motor churning out 335 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This allows the i5 to sprint from 0-60 mph in a manufacturer-estimated 5.7 seconds. The power delivery is instantaneous, as is typical of EVs. The eDrive40 feels responsive whether accelerating from a stop or passing at highway speeds. Handling is adept as well, with the low center of gravity inherent to EVs keeping the i5 planted through corners. The steering provides decent feedback for an electric sedan too.\n\nThe 81.2 kWh battery enables a projected max range of up to 295 miles based on EPA estimates. I saw energy consumption around 30 kWh/100 miles in mixed driving conditions. Charging happens through an 11 kW AC onboard charger, while DC fast charging enables a 10-80% charge in just 30 minutes. Home charging on a Level 2 charger takes under 10 hours. These charging capabilities give the i5 solid road trip potential.\n\nInside, the i5 provides a tasteful blend of luxury and technology. BMW's Curved Display debuts here, with a driver-angled 14.9-inch digital gauge cluster flowing seamlessly into a massive 14.9-inch infotainment touchscreen. The latest iDrive 8 software looks fantastic on the brilliant display. Ergonomics are excellent as well. The front seats are supremely comfortable with ample adjustment, while materials quality impresses throughout.\n\nThere’s abundant passenger space up front and decent room in back. At 17.3 cu-ft, trunk room is generous for the segment. The rear seats fold in a 40/20/40 split to expand cargo capacity when needed. Cabin storage solutions abound, with a large covered bin under the floating center console a handy place to stash a bag or other items.\n\nFrom a driving perspective, the i5 has a settled and solid feel similar to past 5 Series sedans. The low-slung battery pack gives the car a planted, grounded feel. Even without the adaptive dampers on my tester, the ride quality errs towards the comfortable side. Wind and road noise are nicely filtered out. Back road sweeping brings out the i5’s athleticism, with the instant torque adding an eager element whenever you flex your right foot.\n\nPricing for the 2024 i5 eDrive40 starts at $68,895 including destination, making it over $3,000 cheaper than the e-tron GT while undercutting the EQS by nearly $10,000. Standard equipment is generous, with highlights including the Curved Display, retractable door handles, a heat pump, DC fast charging, a surround view camera, and the latest driver aids.\n\n#BMWi5eDrive402024
