In this video, Johan will discuss how the Frostbite 3 game engine is using the low-level graphics API Mantle to deliver excellent performance in Battlefield 4 on PC and future games from Electronic Arts. He will go through the motivation for developing and using a lower level API and concrete details on how it fits into the architecture and rendering systems of Frostbite. Advanced optimization techniques and topics such as parallel dispatch, GPU memory management, async compute will be covered as well as sharing experiences of working with Mantle in general.
Johan is a technical director in the Frostbite engine team at DICE / Electronic Arts. For the past 12 years he has been working with rendering, performance, and core engine systems for games in the Battlefield series and the proprietary Frostbite game engine which is used by multiple future game titles all across Electronic Arts. He drives the development within rendering and future platforms in Frostbite.Johan is a member of multiple industry & hardware advisory boards and has frequently presented at GDC, SIGGRAPH and graphics hardware conferences on topics such as rendering, parallelism, performance, game engine design and future CPU & GPU software/hardware architectures.
