2Three weeks ago a previously unknown cave system was found by a group of miners on Lost Island. A group of archaeologists were sent to investigate and found an artifact of unknown origins inside. Initial research revealed that the artifact was constructed of a previously unknown superheavy element and emits low levels of Beta radiation. Because of the radioactivity of the object and its highly exotic chemistry, researchers advised against moving it off the island for further investigation in situ to rule out any possible geological anomalies. A research base has been set up at Khalino Military base. Because of the standing treaty with the Russian Federation, and their sovereignty over the island, the base is manned by both NATO and the Russian scientists however the security detail is primarily comprised Russian army guards.
In the last couple of days we have received increasing reports of unexplained behaviour amongst the present personnel. Yesterday the Russians sent over an extra platoon to increase the bases security as an attempt to rotate the supposedly fatigued men.
4 hours ago normal contact with the base was lost. The last transmission we received is what is troubling us most:
Dr. Hamilton: “This is Dr. Hamilton, I’m detecting increased levels of ‘weird behaviour’ amongst the majority of our Russian personnel. It started happening after the commander, against my recommendation, touched the artifact with his bare hands. Moments after he closed of the research dome and started calling in the other Russian soldiers one by one. I haven’t seen a single one of them leave the dome since. I suggest sending in extra NATO security personnel immediately, please hurry!”
The nature of the message troubles us. Go to the base and find out why contact is lost. Additionally we need to you secure the Artifact and prepare it for relocation. In cooperation with the US army we’ve set up a more secure research base at Travis Air Force base (California).
