Astroneer - SPOILER - Awakening Completion Cutscene
3I just finished the mission arc again this evening, this time recording the cutscene so that I could rewatch it as desired. This is shown when the "Awakening" mission arc is completed. After playing the game for over 4 years (multiple instances/saves) and finishing this specific mission arc - along with reading all its content - I find this to be a very poignant scene. It still brings great emotion to me when I watch it.
This cutscene was also shown in my YouTube video where I did complete the Awakening content. However, I have since lost the raw footage of that video. All this additional text is also to shove the potential spoiler shown below to a location it may not be immediately visible. To quote EVA: "You're welcome."
***** SPOILER ALERT! The below contains spoilers for the game Astroneer.
Characters shown are EVA the fox and Chronos. EVA is the "Emergency Virtual Avatar," while Chronos is the A.I. caretaker that created EVA.
EVA guides you to free Chronos who needs to contact EXO, letting them know of the fate of the Elysium. EXO will - eventually - rescue the Astroneers trapped within the simulation. It is discovered that the players of Astroneer are the memories of Astroneers. These memories have been transferred to a training simulation (i.e. the game itself) to preserve them until such time that they can be rescued. Chronos discovers the only way to contact EXO for help is to sacrifice himself. As a parting gift, he leaves behind his crown. EVA is also gifted to the player afterward, and she helps the player by allowing them to "break the simulation."
Chronos's final words to the player:
"If you are reading this, then that means you were able to work with EVA to send our S.O.S to EXO. It also means that all that remains of myself has been used to power the communication system and reinforce the Training Program.
It was my greatest joy to live with you as part of the Elysium crew. To watch you flourish and grow, even when you no longer remembered my name. I have so little to leave you with but know that I have given everything I could.
This lifeboat I've created for you will hold steady now--for weeks, months, years--you will survive. And while I can no longer wait alongside you, please be patient a while longer.
They will come for you. This is not the end.
Until then, this world is yours.
I wish the stars for you...my dearest friends."
