As I've gotten older I've come to appreciate Mignola's unique style more and more.
I slept on the Hellboy franchise for a long time, not aware of how intertwined and connected the various mini series and one shots would eventually become. I remember getting the original
Of all the various stories Mignola and friends have done, Baltimore is probably the most compartmentalized and stand alone of them all, and even then it could fit quite nicely in with a lot of the Hellboy mythology.
Despite easily fitting in to the Hellboy mythos, this book really does stand on its own. I can't think of many other alternate history post- world war I horror stories set in the Baltic Peninsula.
Like a lot of the other Mignolaverse books, old school myths and legends are nasty business, and all sorts of monsters get to wrecking havoc in these stories before getting put down by Lord Baltimore.
I'm not into spoiling much, but if the theme and setting sound interesting I think there's a lot to like here!
