Behind the Magic of Black Panther
198The amount of care and training that went into creating Black Panther is truly astounding! With Wakanda Forever lighting the way for all future superhero movies, we had to get into all the magic behind the Black Panther movies. Obviously, Chadwick Boseman is an incredible performer and gave everything he had to this role. Not only did the actors perform the bulk of their own stunts, but they had to endure a Black Panther boot camp where they learned how to fight with weapons, among mastering three different fighting styles! They did not hold back when it came to showing off all of those learned skills! One of the things that are really interesting about the film is the Black Panther suit. Did you know that both Black Panther’s and Erik Killmonger’s suits are achieved with CGI? They use the facial expressions and mannerisms from the actors, but completely digitally render the suits. The CGI is so clean, we truly would’ve never known. Something else we found out was that Michael B. Jordan, who plays Erik Killmonger, spent over two hours in the make up chair getting individual scars applied to his body. It took a team of four make up artists to apply each one by hand. And not only were the suits achieved with CGI, but a great portion of the film’s background was as well! They also expanded a ton of fight scenes with digi-doubles in the background – it really saved money from all the extras they would’ve had to hire instead!
