Blackouts, Grid Down Events: What You Need to Know
171This summer we will see an increase in power outages, blackouts and possible grid down situations. The similarities and slight differences between those terms can change the dynamic of your prepping plans.
Having a Blackout kit ready with flashlights, extra batteries, candles or oil lamps. Use caution and make sure you have well ventilated room and fire extinguishers.
The upcoming summer is predicted to be extremely hot and potential for major storms as well. Many regions could see loss of power due to brownouts, rolling blackouts, downed lines and blown transformers.
The threat of cyber attacks on the grid are a major concern. Many independent systems and several networked utilities are not protected and can be exploited. Expect the possibility to lose power from denial of service attacks.
